Ceritas 2023 Trout Gulch Pinot Noir
Notes from the importer, Andrew Guard:
Rarely rising above 80°F, Trout Gulch exists on the margin - any colder and wine grapes could never ripen. Despite this, our favourite aspect of this site is its consistency. The Alfaro family continues to coax magical fruit out of these nearly 50-year-old vines year after year. We have access to just a few rows of Pinot Noir here, providing a tiny quantity of vivid, bright, and delicious wine. Darker fruits, bordering on purple, jump out of the glass like fireworks, combining with a savoury edge classic to Santa Cruz. The palate reminds us of a perfect blood orange - mild phenolic bitterness wrapped up in mouthwatering red fruit. The tannins are in a perfect spot, firm but never overbearing. All together, an exercise in balance. Stunning.
