Hervé Souhaut 2022 Les Cessieux
Amazing wines from the Northern Rhône.
Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet was created by Hervé Souhaut in 1993. It is located in Arlebosc, Northern Ardeche, just opposite Hermitage, in Saint Joseph. Unlike the traditional wines of Northern Rhône, Souhaut aims to make wines that can be drunk young but also age, focusing on extraction and producing a balanced tannin. He is a strict organic viticulturist and works with vines ranging from 50-100 years old.
This new cuvée is actually from a site that Hervé rented out 25 years ago, before he even knew he wanted to make wines! It is owned by the grandfather of Beatrice, Hervé’s wife.
He converted them to organics in 2013, and now creates Syrah that is expressive and aromatic. Savoury, and dark fruited but full of finesse. A far more lifted, floral and sleek interpretation of Saint Joseph.
