Notes from Kennedy, Pablo and Phil, the winemakers:
Hand picked from the Longview Vineyard. The 2021 Barbera was destemmed and whole berry fermented over 5 week period. Gentle extraction during the heart of fermentation saw, foot plunging and air-ration used to keep the Kinetics of fermentation happy. Then post fermentation we go to work tasting and incorporating a skin to wine program to get the best fruit, tannin and acid profile. Natural MLF occurs during this time and we press based on taste. Matured in puncheons (500L) barrels for the calendar year. We found this time allowed the natural vibrant characters of the fruit to settle into its delicate structure.
Strawberries and cream on the nose with a subtle perfume at the back, slight earthy chocolate tones. Palate starts with a subtle savoury taste, with bounds of fresh red fruits, with great length. Well balanced weight. Restrained fruit in harmony with its acidity. Great Natural acidity with soft tannin to finish it out.
