François Mikulski is in the top Echelon of Meursault producers. His wines are bright, mineral, racy and incredibly fine.
Mikulski produces elegant wines that are highly sought after and can be hard to find. They start life pale in colour and are typically nervy and tight. Stylistically they are kind of sui-generis as they are not embellished by oak nor do are thy cloaked in reductive artifice - they are fine, precise and have lovely balance and length. In the vines Mikulski is a practitioner of lutte raisonnée, a system of cultivation that is essentially organic and noninterventionist. Lutte raisonnée entails holistic and balanced viticultural management with primary focus on the microbialhealth of the soil and the biodiversity of the vineyard. 100% Pinot Noir from two parcels, planted in 1947 and 1976 respectively. These vines are grown on brown silt, on a base of fractured rock. Each parcel is vinified in tanks for around 17 days then into oak barrels for at least 14 months. Cherries, liquorice and tobacco. Everything you expect from a superb wine that’ll only get better with age.
