Jean Foillard is one of the best-known and most respected winemakers in all of Beaujolais. It has quickly become obvious that the grape doesn’t fall far from the vine. Alex Foillard’s first vintage was 2016, and he is moving fast. These wines, made with whole clusters and via carbonic maceration in concrete tanks, with ambient yeast, are energetic and finely detailed, even in the hot 2018 and 2017 vintages. Unfortunately, production here is still small.
