2020 Local Weirdos Chateau Da Swan
Juicy and fleshy with a web of gummy, earthy tannins.
Scents of dried flowers, garam masala, black berries and raspberry liquorice. It smells and tastes savoury before it gets fruity, there’s a swish of tart acidity that finishes things, that tang just a little outside the main body of the wine. The chomp of terracotta-textured (and flavoured?!) tannin is a force and continues well after each sip. It’s an oafish wine in a way, lumbering across the palate, thick set in perfume and taste, but has a mojo, drinks with charm, just moves at a slower pace. It shows the warm region well, while offering drinkability. It sits somewhere between fun and serious, leaning into the latter with the weight and texture. It keeps you thinking. Perhaps drink with a light chill. Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
