2020 Dr. Edge Chardonnay South

I tried this over the course of two full days, spanning Tuesday-to-Thursday, which is unusual for me and chardonnay, but life is just a bit tricky at present.
By accident though it was a good process to go through. My initial impression of this wine was that it’s unbelievably piercing in style, by way of its acidity yes but more so thanks to its intense green/ripe pineapple flavours, matched to citrus and pear, matched to green apple, peach and florals. There’s spiciness in play too, which may but may not be oak related, along with flint notes but it’s hard to take your eyes off that river of pineapple, so to speak. I think absolutely that this is a fine, high quality wine but it’s also bleedingly obvious that it needs some alone time. Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
