2020 Dilworth and Allain Tarrington Chardonnay

A chance to score a tonne of chardonnay from colleague Owen Latta’s stash of Tarrington Vineyard (Henty) fruit, and we’re gifted this expression from the excellent Dilworth & Allain.
Their usual vineyard, Cope-Williams, didn’t fare well during flowering and fruit set, alas. This is unfined, unfiltered chardonnay, from a natural ferment and no additions. Austrian and French oak season things. It’s got some really appealing richness and creaminess to texture with a strong suite of piquant spice, like clove, cumin and the like, though sandalwood is a character that also came to mind. Lemon-lime citrus on just ripe nectarine, a bit of green mango here as well. Moreish, ample style, with excellent, minerally acid spine and refreshing, crisp-ish finish. Such a treat.
