2020 Dazma Walters Vermentino
New project from winemaker Charlie Osborne who works alongside the crew from Konpira Maru, an outfit known for excellent value, avant garde wines from all over the place.
Charlie has worked in the winery with the KM crew and was encouraged into making his own wines, here, vermentino from Chalmers Vineyard in Merbein, Victoria. The wine sees a bit of skin contact and then time in wood and steel. Scents of lemon-ginger-honey tea. So strong. If it was warm I’d be fireside relaxing in my Grosby slippers. Slurpy texture, rich and plush in the palate, lemon-ginger-honey tea here too, broad and washy in the mouth with nice concentration and despite the richness and tart, tangy finish emerges nicely. Some good nutty-savouriness in the mix too, the faintest tannins too. Quite simple in a way. Very delicious and easy to drink in another. Feels easy to get stuck into and the price is excellent for this mode of wine. Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
