2019 Josh Cooper Doug’s Vineyard Pinot Noir
Notes from Andrew Ainsworth:
The other vineyard from which Josh sources Pinot Noir is Doug’s, which is in Romsey within the Macedon Ranges GI. Iron-rich basalt again here, though much more topsoil and a cooler climate as it sits more elevated. 2019 was about to go into bottle and everything was in good order. It reminds me of biting into perfectly ripe fruit: fleshy yet sour at the same time. Cherries and plums with cool, mountainous herbs a real feature of this wine, a little gamey and typical dry tannin keeping it tightly wound. Probably the “fruitier” of the two pinots for me, and once again, pretty outstanding stuff.
