2019 Calcarius Hellen Bianco
Last year winemaker Valentina Passalacqua's father was charged with "caporalato".
He was exploiting immigrant workers in what is considered to be a modern form of slavery. Not cool obvs. While Valentina has distanced herself from her father's operation, her brand has been impacted nonetheless, and as you may have noticed, like quite a few other restaurants / retailers, we stopped selling the product. However, at the other end of the spectrum from worker exploitation, there is another loser in this situation - an Australian importer who after paying up front for a shipment, prior to any allegations, has been stuck with stock. We have offered to help them sell this wine, and in the process the distributor and DRNKS have elected to not only sell the wine at a reduced price, but donate $5 from every bottle to the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT. We are attempting to be transparent and honest about this shitty situation so please feel free to ask us questions / give feedback. Thanks.
The wine? A light and dry and quite pretty Falanghina from Puglia.
