2019 Alice L'Estrange La Cargadora
100% Cinsault, organically grown by Soledad, on granite.
Skins ferment, pressed when dry (two weeks). Stainless steel aged under flor. In the South Cinsault is called La Cargadora (the big yielder) because it was brought in to compliment País - lighter, lower booze, smaller grapes. Truly adopted and now synonymous with Itata, 80-100+yr old vines like these are not uncommon treasures. This wine is a look to the past, when oxygen was an ingredient in winemaking and ageing, with plump but not overripe fruits. A homage to the time when natural wine was real business for farmers in the south and port culture was thriving.
