2018 Yann Bertrand Dynamite

These Beaujolais are life changing.
Sorry about the long notes - plenty to talk about... The Bertrand estate was established in the 1950’s by Louis Bertrand, located in a special part of Beaujolais called Grand-pré. This area straddles Fleurie and Morgon, rich in sandy granitic soil. The estate has a line of schist running through the property, and in comparison to other vineyards of Fleurie, theirs are 80% more sandy. In the early 90’s the estate was split between Louis’s two sons. Yann Bertrand, whom has just last month celebrated his 30th birthday, took over from his parents Guy & Annick in 2013.
The only vineyard the estate has in Morgon, this 1.2 hectare site is also farmed in accordance with biodynamic principles . The soil is composed of granite and schist rich in iron oxide. Elevage in old barrels and Demi-muds of white and red wine origin, for 7-9 months. Darker fruit of cassis and plums interspersed with raspberries. The palate displays a schist driven long line with a chalky feathering at the back. Whilst this is a wine of more power and tannin, there is an underlying elegance.
