2018 Fall From Grace Lolita
Notes from Gill, the beautiful woman behind the wines..: I love this vineyard and this wine, it can be a difficult child at times but always delivers something beautiful. This is our 7th vintage of Lolita and each year it changes, as it should. Halfway up the hill towards Kuitpo it’s much cooler than the Vale floor and we always pick the day I am due to head to Italy. Most of the flavour is in the skins so we leave half the pick in clay pots until the cap drops -just as the Contardino I work with in Italy do, usually 2-6 months. We then gently press in our old basket press and then put to old oak for 12 months, both parts are then blended and rested then bottled unfiltered and unfined. A delicious mix of pure fruit, spice and gentle oxidative notes with bright acidity. Such a great wine with seafood, cheese and pork. Can handle some spice.
