2017 Ruggabellus Efferus
Notes from maker and grower, Abel Gibson..: 73% Mataro, 11% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Cinsault, 153 cases made, 17% whole bunches. The Mataro for this wine comes from a small 0.52Ha bush vine vineyard in the Krondorf region of the Barossa valley. This parcel of fruit has gone in to every Efferus we have made. Mataro with its later ripening than Grenache was able to enjoy the late March/April warmth that finally arrived in 2017. Initially it feels like a slightly lighter version of the previous vintage, but with ample grit and substance to make it well worth bottling as Efferus. It withstood our usual test of standing up to 4 - 7 days open after double decanting away the bottle sediment. Should age well for 10 -12 years at least.
