2017 Oddero Barbaresco Gallina
Funky cold Gallina.
It was a warmer vintage, and the wines reflect that, though they are finer and fresher than, say 2011, which is a vintage I never much liked, even though my second son was born that year. You can drink this vintage while you’re waiting for the 2016’s and 2013’s to come around, which is handy in a way. Here we have red cherry, raspberry, raw almond and a bit of earth, dusty spice and some potpourri. It’s fresh, but quite fleshy, strawberry dusted with spice, some perfume, a bit of clay earthiness and a little rasp of tannin, finish is clean too, with a kind of fresh raspberry/cranberry crispness. Still feels a bit ‘mineral’ too. It’s a lovely wine, and easy to enjoy. It may well come together and surprise given a few years in the cellar. Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
