2017 Matassa Marguerite
Domaine Matassa was formed back in 02’ when New Zealander Tom Lubbe purchased ancient, 100+ year old vines, on the remote hillside of Vivier in Roussillon. Focusing on northern Catalan varieties, the vines are farmed according to biodynamic principles, with a natural logic following in the cellar. An even blend of Muscat á Petits Grains, Muscat of Alexandria and Macabeo taken off bush vines grown on slate. The influence of the Mediterranean sea and cool winds from the Pyrenees show their force in this wine, with a sea-spray-like acidity and pervasive minerality. Fermented on indigenous yeast in 500L barrels, 'Cuvee Marguerite' spends 10 months on lees without any stirring and goes through malo before being bottled with less than 10 parts p.m of sulphur.
