Purveyors of fine grape juice
2017 Jean Ginglinger Gewurztraminer Maceration alsace, france

Jean Ginglinger is based in the central Alsace village of Pfaffenheim which lies 12 kilometres south of Colmar where he cares for 6.5 hectares of prime sites including two Grand Cru vineyards (Steinert and Zinnkoepfle).
The family are not recent arrivals having been involved in viticulture here since 1610!!!
This is another maceration (orange) wine released by Jean Ginglinger for only the second time this year. We are very keen on macerated Alsace grape varieties and this wine is no exception. It is long on flavour and very good as a food wine.
The grapes were pressed and the skins were left in the juice for two weeks to extract the colour and the tannins from the skins into the juice. The juice has become a deep orange brown colour and the tannins are soft but recognisable. After the wine is open it holds up well for two or three days due to the preservative effect of the tannins.
