Mariano Taberner is a humble, quiet and brilliant, brilliant farmer and winemaker. He's based in the tiny village of La Portera, about an hour directly west of Valencia, within the appellation of Utiel-Requena, which is one of the oldest known vineyard areas in Europe. So, the 2017 Brutal Ancestral is 100% Moscatel, picked with the aim of capturing delicious fruit but before the ripeness moves towards rich exoticism. The fruit was lightly macerated at the beginning of fermentation, pressed and then run to bottle to ferment to dryness. Following roughly 7 months on lees the wine was disgorged.
