Purveyors of fine grape juice
2016 Tommy Ruff Clarott barossa valley, australia

Clarott, not Claret. Wink, wink. Merlot and shiraz “to look cabernet-esque”.
The fruit is off the Shobbrook family estate vineyard in Seppeltsfield. It’s 20% whole bunch in the shiraz, in stainless for a year, merlot was sent to new Austrian oak vats. Pushing the Barossa Valley paradigm.
Tomato leaf, red currants, touch of leather strap, whiff of smoke and bayleaf scents. Ha! Touch of Claret, if you squint. Fleshy textured with ultra bright acidity, more of the amaro and sour-sweet fruit characters, finishes herbal and peppery with fine, soft tannins. It’s medium bodied with squeaky acidity and finishes long and gently sweet through the finish. Looked much smoother and finer after a day open. Lovely drinking; slot it into the repertoire.
