Purveyors of fine grape juice
2016 Patrick Sullivan Fruit Of The Sky Pinot Noir mornington peninsula, australia
$50

From Mornington Peninsula and Silverwood Estate’s vines.
Pat Sullivan had done some Bill Downie-esque sourcing from Gippsland, Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula, but will focus on Gippsland and his home farm in future. This is the last release of this wine. These wines, for me, mark a bit of a coming of age for Pat, with a more serious feel in this suite of wines.
Bold perfume, strong and feisty, offering stewed cherries, ripe strawberries, exotic Asian spice and lavender. Brambly in the palate with squished ripe forest berry flavours, it’s fleshy, suede-textured and dense but finds crisp edges and a chalky finish. There’s breadth here, suggestive of Mornington’s ampler expressions of pinot, but the squeakiness to close gives a moreish, lip-smacking feel. Fuller figured pinot done well.
