2016 Hughes-Béguet Orange Was The Colour Of Her Dress
Winemaker Patrice Béguet, born in the Jura, gave up Paris city life and returned to the Jura countryside with his wife, Caroline Hughes. They purchased heritage vineyards on great terroir, and set up a small winery under their house in Mesnay adopting sustainable viticulture practices and winemaking techniques. Named after the Charles Mingus song ‘Orange was the colour of her dress’. Patrice is experimental in the cave with this wine. 100% Savagnin ouillé (topped up) Made from the"Champ Fort" vineyard (blue and white marl) and " Les Saules " ( Bajocian ) in Mesnay , " Côte de Feule " in Pupillin ( red and grey marl Blue) It consists of Savagnin macerated on skins for 7 months, plus Savagnin pressed out after a long carbonic maceration, which is blended back in with the skin contact Savagnin a couple of weeks before bottling. The extra texture to this wine provides interest and it has great balance of salty, sweet, bitter and sour going so well with food. Only around 2000 bottles made.
