Purveyors of fine grape juice
2016 Ephemera Chardonnay mornington peninsula, australia

Ephemera is the Project of Rhen Dodd and Janelle De Gabriele.
The project aims to be an ongoing exploration of Victorian vineyards, with a lean to sustainable and considered viticulture. There are no fixed regions, and the varietals sourced are ones that we believe are well suited to the region. The wines are made with as little tinkering in the cellar as possible, especially during fermentation. All the wines are fermented naturally and see some time in seasoned barrels for ageing on full solids. Skins and stalks are utilized to varying degrees in most cuvees, as we believe this helps to convey site expression.
This wine is sourced from a South East facing site in Red Hill, unirrigated chardonnay planted on its own roots in deep volcanic soil. The vineyard is somewhat of a natural amphitheatre looking over Western Port Bay. In the cellar whole clusters were pressed directly to old French oak barrels, natural ferment on full soilds, natural malo. The wine was rested on full lees for 8 months, racked once, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The only addition is Sulphur Dioxide prior to bottling.
