2016 Claus Preisinger Kalkundkiesel Red / White burgenland, austria

This is the first vintage of the Kalk und Kiesel Red, a red and white field blend that Claus wanted to make in a more experimental style.
The majority of the grapes are Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, with smaller amounts of Weissburgunder, Muller Thurgau, and Welschriesling. Claus vinified the fruit in 3 diferent ways - direct pressing, whole bunch fermentation, and maceration on skins for 3 days. After blending the wine was aged in used 500 litre barrels.
