2014 Sato Chardonnay central otago, new zealand

Yoshi Sato in full organic farming mode and making wine au naturel.
The expressive nature of his wines sits well outside of much of Central Otago’s line and length, high quality offerings, though is also high quality in itself, if not slightly more interesting. Anyway, here’s a great chardonnay. Feels a touch ala good Jura, actually, which is great.
Full flavoured, saline imbued, nutty-savoury chardonnay here. Strong bouquet of green apple, oyster shell, sea spray, almond/cashews. There’s some power and weight to the palate but the freshness of fino-like acidity keeps the wine buoyant and fresh. It’s got impressive length, fine detail, etched with light talc-like dryness in texture, crunchy to finish. It’s a complete chardonnay with a slightly oxidative suggestion, beautiful and fine to drink, evolving in glass constantly. Big yes. Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
