2014 Joshua Cooper The Springs
Geez, really liking what young Josh Cooper is doing. Judicious sourcing of fruit, a handle on the gentle winemaking, resulting wines coming out like Adam Gilchrist in the third test of the 2006-2007 Ashes series. This is 100% whole bunch, foot stomped and fermented in an old wooden fermenter then hangs out for 20 months to get its vibe right. This ain’t typical Heathcote shiraz. Exotic nee crazy. This is feral, funky, ferrous, flighty. Full of bruised fruit and undergrowth, meat, cola, sweetness and sourness. Slinky texture, great length. It blasts out of the glass with supple potency and impressive carriage of flavour. Wild and stunning.
