2014 Domaine d’Escausses Cuvee des Drilles
Duras is the predominant variety in this blend from the south west of France. Along with Braucol these were the most heavily planted varieties in the area, however many of these vines are being ripped out and replaced with the more fashionable varieties from the north in Bordeaux. The 26 hectares of vines are planted on a mix of marne and sedimentary limestone. Fermentation is spontaneous using wild yeasts, and fermentation and elevage is carried out in old oak barrels. Slightly rustic with red and black forest fruits and dried Mediterranean herbs, this is light, supple and delicious.
