2014 Côme Isambert Grolleau Cabernet Franc
Côme is a young winemaker from Saumur, who worked alongside Eric Dubois from Clos Cristal. In 2013 Côme started his own project on the side, buying organic grapes from growers in the area, namely sites in Le Puy-Notre-Dame and Saint-Georges-sur-Layon. 70% Grolleau, 30% Cabernet Franc grown on schist soils in Saint-Georges-sur-Layon. Fermented in tank, then punched down by foot. Malolactic fermentation, no racking, then pressed in a vertical press slowly before being aged on lees for 6 months – 50% in old wood and 50% in tank. Bottled with a touch of sulfur, without filtration. Very well balanced, with all elements in line. Schisty freshness, with purple fruits and very fine tannins. Very well put together!
