Purveyors of fine grape juice
2013 La Clarine Farm Sumu Kaw sierra nevada, USA

This is syrah from a ridge in the Sierra Foothills at around 900 metres, fenced in by pine forest.
Natural ferment, large format older oak, no filtering or fining, minimal sulphur added. Laid back. And yes, screwcaps are the go.
It’s seriously great drinking and such an interesting expression of syrah. Smoke, game meats, pine needles (yes!), dried herbs and pepper, something dark and stewed but that whips away quickly. It’s surprisingly light and frisky to taste, almost shy of medium bodied but with dense concentration within. More smoke and meat, almost tar-tinged, black tea tannins, finishing long, tight and sinewy. Balance is there, so is energy, so is pure, rugged, wonderful expression of fruit. Dig this.
