Purveyors of fine grape juice
2013 La Clarine Farm Josephine + Mariposa sierra nevada, USA
$55

In a neat parallel to the avant garde of Australian wine, there’s a shift going on in California too.
Perhaps one of the most exciting producers is La Clarine Farm, further enhanced by their farm to bottle, mixed agriculture practices. Animals roam, vineyards grow, gardens are bountiful. Hank Beckmeyer, wine grower and farmer, should be on your radar.
Gobsmackingly delicious and beautiful to drink. Silken charm, crisp fruit character, wickedly pretty perfume. Sits up high with red fruits, touch of currants, whiff of peppery spice, herbs and earth dusted off them. It’s cool and crunchy to taste but with an inward dark fruit concentration, lick of amaro and liquorice, finishes very, very long and fine with lacy tannins giving chew and briny acidity lending vitality. Pure, fine and fiercely drinkable. Wonderful. Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
