Purveyors of fine grape juice
2011 La Sorga Don Qui Rotte languedoc roussillon, france
$50

This lively sparkling wine is made by La Sorga winemaker-negociant Antony Tortul with a pal, Emile Heredia, better known for the extraordinarily long lived, iconic wines of Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia.
It’s left to hang on lees for 24 months before release. From the Herault Valley, it’s produced from the grape variety terret bourret. It goes to bottle with a steady pulse and comes out with tachycardia – thrilling wine when it hits its straps. Fruit, flavour, texture, bubbles, kicks around. Fresh and fruity and spicy. Big hit of lemon/lime, almost Splice ice-block scented with a sniff of lemon pepper and sage. Bursts into the palate with foamy, frothy bead, picks up some vinous green apple crisp sweetness and finishes with saline tang. It’s a brilliant, vibrant fizzy white with a mule kick of spice and faint yeasty toastiness for complexity. Drink steady. Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
